Here at Outdoor Creations, we love all types of garden design and believe it can be a real extension of your house and home interior. Each garden design will be different and will be loved for different reasons. In this article we look further into the use of water features in a garden and the benefits they bring. We’ve collated all our findings into three simple, yet convincing points.
Aquatic plants and wildlife
By adding a water feature to your garden design, not only are you adapting the visual aspects of your garden but you are also creating a whole new habitat for plants and wildlife alike. If you are opting for a pond then investing in some beautiful aquatic plants would be a good idea. Not only do water plants look attractive and add colour but they also help to maintain the nutrients in the pond and keep it clean. When choosing your desired aquatic plants you need to keep in mind the time of year, the height the flowers will grow to and the rate in which they grow. You also need to take in to consideration the layout of your water plants. Some of our favourites for garden ponds are water lilies and irises, however you need to think about the size of your pond before you start purchasing plants. Plants do not only enhance the beauty and health of a garden pond but they also provide much needed shelter for any pond life you have.
If you do not have enough space for a garden pond but you love the idea of encouraging more wildlife into your garden then don’t fret as other water features can prove lucrative for wildlife. Birds will love smaller water features as they will act as a bird bath for them.
Visually pleasing
There’s no denying it, any type of water feature adds a certain beauty to a garden design, whether it’s a garden pond, a small fountain or a type of waterfall. There are many different types you can choose from, dependant on the style you are after. It’s important to opt for a water feature that is in-keeping with your overall garden design, that way it can compliment your garden rather than looking out of place.
Noise pollution
The outside world can be a noisy place and you may feel the need to drown out certain noises from time to time when in your garden and a water feature is the ideal natural way to do so. Don’t get us wrong, there are some noises we love to hear whilst out in our gardens, such as the wildlife, however, noise pollution in the form of traffic can ruin our experience in our gardens.
Water features can go a long way in drowning out these unpleasant and unwanted sounds. The sound of running water is very relaxing and help to create a peaceful and tranquil environment to be in.
A good garden design should represent an individuals personality and be totally unique to that individual or family. Water features have many benefits, as discussed, and can help enhance the overall look and feel of your garden design.
