As we reach the last few days of February, it’s time to start turning our thoughts to Spring. There is plenty to be getting on with to start preparing your garden for Spring and in this blog Outdoor Creations are giving you some top tips.
Clean Your Greenhouse
If you have a greenhouse now is the time to clean it. Chances are it has probably been neglected over the winter months and is need of a little tender love and care. Remove any old plant debris that may still be left over from last year, take care of any weeding if necessary, disinfect any benches and of course disinfect the inside of the glass. After using cleaning products be sure to ventilate the greenhouse well for the next few days to ensure it dries properly.
Clear Up Flower Beds and Borders
The wet weather makes it hard to get out in the garden to any kind of maintenance over the Winter, now is the time to make to most of the (albeit cold) dry and sunny days. It’s a good time to clear up any fallen leaves or dead plants from your flower beds, lawns and ponds. Remember, Spring cleaning is not just for inside the house!
Order Bulbs and Seeds
When summer comes round, you will of course want your garden looking as good as it can be and nothing helps more than being prepared. Now is the time to start ordering your summer-flowering seed and bulbs, spend your Sunday morning browsing through catalogues or websites with a coffee. Once you’ve decided what you what in your garden this year, just sit back and wait for the postman to arrive. Or you can of course visit your local garden centre to see exactly what they have in stock.
Install A Water butt
We’ve spoken before about the advantages of using a water butt, if you haven’t yet fitted one in your garden now is the perfect time to do so. Fit the water butt to a down pipe and you can then begin collecting the seasonal rain, saving you money on your water bill!
Fix Garden Structures
If you’ve experienced any heavy winds over the winter, there is a possibility some structures in your garden may have been damaged. Whether it’s a fence panel, a trellis or maybe a gate, it’s a good time to get out and fix them now before you’re busy with Summer gardening tasks.
We really like the Spring time here at Outdoor Creations, although the temperatures may still be a little on the chilly side, on a nice sunny dry day a lot can be achieved in the garden ready for when Summer finally comes round.
