Ponds are a very popular addition to Garden Designs. They are not only a thing of beauty, but they can offer relaxing and soothing sounds when enjoy the summer sun. In our blog this week, we are looking at a few benefits of having a pond incorporated into your Garden design and a few things to consider before deciding on your pond style.
Unique factor
One great thing about ponds which makes them so popular is their unique factor, you can make your pond any shape or style you like. This means it can be created to suit any style of garden design and will certainly be a talking point within any garden.
Plants
Including plants within your pond is another way for you to bring your pond and garden to life even more. However, plants do not only bring a visual benefit to your pond, certain plants can help encourage wildlife and even help keep your pond water clear.
There are many varieties of plants that grow in ponds, which means your pond can be used as another opportunity to bring colour to your garden. If you include different depths within your pond, you can add even more variety of plants, as different plant varieties grow at different depths.
Wildlife
Many people enjoy wildlife visiting their garden. There are many different ways to encourage wildlife, you can put food out for birds, add a hedgehog house or maybe even a bug box. But a pond can also be a hub for local wildlife. It can encourage a wide variety of wildlife indigenous to your area including dragonflies, birds and frogs.
Built-in water features
If your adding a pond to your garden, it is a great opportunity for you to incorporate a water feature of some kind. There are many possibilities when adding a water feature. You could have small stream running from one end of your garden that eventually reaches a waterfall at the pond or even just add a fountain to within the pond.
A few things to consider
When thinking about your pond, it’s worth considering a few things. Does your pond require a low fence around it? If small children are likely to visit your pond then it might be a good idea to have small fence around the edge of it. Also, netting over the water should be considered, not only for small children but also animals such as cats and dogs that might feel the urge to reach into the water for any wildlife. This is especially important if you are adding fish to the water.
